The Bureau of Investigative Journalism is looking for a new editor to lead its tenacious, creative and talented Global Health team. Are you the person to lead our team into its next phase, building on three years of award-winning coverage of Covid vaccine inequity, drug supply chains, Big Tobacco and more?

We believe that investigative journalism can be used to drive change by shining a light on the most pressing issues in global health today. Through forensic, inventive and ambitious reporting, we uncover wrongdoing, reveal new data and work with the people most affected to produce journalism that makes a real difference to the world – ultimately by helping improve people’s health.

Impact is at the heart of what the Bureau does. Since the Global Health team formed in 2020 our journalism has helped spark change from a global to community level. For example, our investigation into the cost and availability of medical oxygen across parts of Africa and South America marked a “turning point” in rallying an international response, one expert told us.

We collaborate with communities, civil society organisations, lawyers, legislators and others to ensure our journalism is used by and accessible to those who can benefit from it, or those who should be paying attention. In the past year we’ve worked with young people in Lima to crowdsource data about cigarette advertising, and have produced a Spanish-language comic to take our findings to Mexican migrant farmworkers via WhatsApp.

We’re looking for someone who is full of ideas, able to lead by example and who can get stuck into all stages of the editorial process while also taking a strategic view of the team’s work. This role could particularly suit a mid- or senior-level reporter looking for an opportunity to expand on their editing and leadership skills.

We work strategically and collaboratively to maximise the impact of our reporting and share our findings openly with local, national and international media outlets to reach as many people as possible.
