Lead national conversation. Shape the future of journalism. Live somewhere extraordinary.

There aren’t many roles like this anywhere in the world.

The StuffGroup is looking for an exceptional Editor-in-Chief to lead The Post, one of New Zealand’s most influential national news brands. This is a rare opportunity to step into a role with real impact: shaping public discourse, holding power to account, and leading journalism that reaches more than one million people every month.

The Role

As Editor-in-Chief, you’ll set the editorial agenda for The Post at a time when trusted journalism matters more than ever. You’ll lead a high-performing newsroom delivering sharp insight and authoritative analysis across politics, business, and society for an audience that includes the country’s key decision-makers.

You’ll bring strong editorial judgement, a deep understanding of modern media, and the confidence to make bold calls when it counts. This is a role for someone who thrives at the centre of national conversation and knows how to lead from the front.

You’ll also oversee our premium print products, including The Post print edition and its stablemate, the Sunday Star Times, ensuring quality, consistency, and impact across every platform.

What You’ll Bring

You’re an established editorial leader with the credibility, networks, and instinct to operate at the highest level. You understand the intersection of politics, power, and money, and how to translate that into journalism that cuts through.

You’re equally comfortable navigating media law and ethics as you are embracing emerging technologies, including AI, to evolve how journalism is delivered.

You know how to build, inspire, and challenge talented teams, and you’re confident representing your newsroom externally, from boardrooms to broadcast.

Why New Zealand? Why Now?

This isn’t just a role, it’s a lifestyle shift.

New Zealand offers a globally unique combination: a vibrant democracy, a highly engaged audience, and a media landscape where great journalism still has the power to genuinely shape outcomes. Add to that an exceptional quality of life, world-class nature, short commutes, and a culture that values balance as much as ambition.

It’s the chance to do career-defining work, without compromise.

Why Stuff?

Stuff is New Zealand’s largest digital media organisation, reaching 3.5 million Kiwis every month. We’re independent, ambitious, and committed to making a meaningful difference through journalism that matters.

We back our people to lead, innovate, and push boundaries, and we’re building a future-focused media business that blends storytelling, technology, and commercial sustainability.

We’re also committed to building a diverse and inclusive newsroom that reflects modern New Zealand.
