The Center for Countering Digital Hate is a growing organisation with offices in Washington DC and London that actively counters the spread of digital hate, misinformation and harms to children. In recent years, we have expanded rapidly, exposing the ways in which social media and AI platforms amplify harmful content to boost their revenues.

We are looking for a Research Officer with experience of researching social media or AI platforms to join our growing and talented team. If you have a talent for investigating social media or AI platforms and want to develop your skills while helping to counter online harms, we want to hear from you.

The Role

In this role, you will have lots of opportunities to contribute ideas and develop new research, while supporting our team’s work to identify emerging harms and write impactful reports. Working as part of a project team, you will collaborate on data gathering, analysis and report writing while developing your knowledge about online harms. You will join a team that invests in staff and will offer you opportunities to publish impactful research.

To do this job, you will need to show that you have experience of producing accurate and original research about social media trends. Experience of original research on our topics is not required, but you will need a strong understanding of online harms including hate, misinformation and harms to children. We are interested in candidates from a range of research backgrounds, whether it’s academia, journalism, social media marketing, politics or something else entirely. Above all you must be well-organised and accurate, with an ability to work collaboratively and communicate clearly with other members of your team.

Please note that second-stage interviews will require applicants to complete a short work-related task.
