Sifted is looking for a reporter to join our team of journalists covering the world of European startups and tech. This role will specifically focus on fintech.

Fintech is one of European tech’s largest sectors and includes some of the region’s best-known tech companies. Keeping on top of the latest at Klarna, N26 and Revolut will be the bread and butter of this role — as will keeping tabs on who the next heavyweights could be. The fintech reporter will also be responsible for Sifted’s weekly fintech newsletter with a readership of nearly 25,000.

It’s an exciting time to be covering the beat, as a likely wave of M&A will provide juicy deals to be scooped. And if IPO markets open again, it will be a chance to cover some of Europe’s biggest exits.

We’re looking for someone who can cultivate relationships with fintech founders, investors, bankers and M&A lawyers, and get their head around the latest fintech flavour of the day, from B2B buy now, pay later to wealthtech.

You’ll need to be a creative, collaborative and versatile journalist who is full of ideas, has an eye for a good story and writes delightful prose.

The successful candidate will be more than “just” another reporter in a newsroom: you will play a big role in developing a modern media company and your perspective on what we create across the business will be highly valued. You’ll also get to work closely and collaboratively with a friendly team of journalists with experience at outlets like the Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Politico, Dagens Industri, the BBC and Fortune.

We strongly encourage applicants from underrepresented backgrounds to apply for this position.

About Sifted

Sifted is an award-winning new media platform, backed by the Financial Times, reporting on the world of technology and startups in Europe. Five years after launching, our high-quality journalism is a must-read for many founders, investors and people working in startups across the continent.

We’re friendly, hard-working and passionate about what we do. We have a flat structure, collaborate across disciplines and everyone has an impact across many areas of the business. We value feedback, honesty and clear communication.

What will you be doing?

You’ll be writing quick turnaround news stories and longer analytical pieces, hunting down scoops and delving into company accounts. You’ll star in our weekly podcast, and moderate online and in-person panel discussions hosted by Sifted.

Timeframe

We will be accepting applications until January 14.

Requirements

We’re looking for someone who has at least two years’ experience in journalism. We want someone with strong English, original (and plentiful) ideas and the ability to write clean and characterful copy.

Ideally, you will be comfortable writing in a variety of formats, from news to features to data stories, hosting virtual and in-person events, and excited to work in an environment where things move fast and often change.

You must answer the questions at the bottom of the application form and send a cover letter — please note we will not accept applications without this.

Location

Applicants for this role must be based in London.

Benefits

  • Salary of £30-45k, dependent on experience
  • Shiny technical equipment — we’re a Mac shop generally, but are open to whatever suits your needs
  • 28 days of annual leave
  • Regular team socials, both in-person (when possible) and online
