46% of Brits are turning away from the news, and 36% say it negatively affects their mental health. But the news is a fundamental cornerstone of our society – it educates us on local and global affairs, and teaches us about issues we’ll eventually vote on. At The Know, we’re on a mission to make keeping up with the news less stressful and more manageable. In the process, we’re building a community of people who feel confident learning about, talking about, and acting upon the biggest issues of the day. Our content is also primarily targeted at women, who often feel left out of conversations in mainstream media.

We’re looking for an excellent Editor to direct our content strategy and propel us to growth. The perfect candidate for this role is creative, forward-thinking, and driven. They’re passionate about writing and editing, but equally about the future of media and how to engage women in the news. They understand that building a strong brand is a combination of world-class content, nurturing a community, and implementing strategic growth activities, and are excited to work at the intersection of all three. This is a rare opportunity to work closely with the CEO, and will suit a strategic thinker excited to make their mark in a high-growth media startup.

Responsibilities

  • Direct The Know’s overall content strategy by proactively tracking opportunities for improvement and using data to inform decision-making.
  • Set the news and content agenda for The Know newsletters, following UK news, big global stories, and news on issues that resonate with our demographic.
  • Manage our staff writer and social media content creator, using a combination of data and sensibility to help guide each of them as they develop and execute on overall content strategy.
  • Oversee all social media content, selecting stories that help boost our engagement and growth.
  • Occasionally write the daily newsletter and original guide content for the website.
  • Write and edit all necessary copy marketing for The Know in our tone of voice.
  • Produce sponsored and cross-promotional content for our partnerships.
  • Head up other projects to support The Know’s growth, in areas such as events, merch, and community building.
  • Act as a representative for the brand for external events, advertisers and business partners.

Requirements

  • An instinctive grasp of what will hit the zeitgeist and resonate with our target audience of millennial women.
  • Journalism experience as a writer or story editor, ideally in a women’s media or busy news organisation.
  • Understanding the needs of our corporate partners, and using creativity to meet them.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with a strong ability to use The Know’s tone of voice.
  • Ability to think strategically about the future of the business.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the team and the CEO.
  • Highly organised and capable of managing competing priorities.
