We are looking for a talented Web Editor to join the Marketing team at StepChange Debt Charity in Leeds. As most of our new clients reach out to us via our website, this role is vitality important to the charity overall.
What you will be doing
You will provide the day-to-day management for the website and especially its content. You will align plans with future strategy and monitor how the site is performing. As a subject matter expert, you will be passionate about looking for ways to enhance the charity’s portfolio of online content ensuring we are able to continue meeting our clients evolving needs.
Key accountabilities
- Develop and maintain an agreed content strategy that supports digital content output
- Manage, maintain and improve the quality and consistency of the website’s digital content output by providing leadership, strategic and tactical direction, support and feedback to members of the team
- Provide guidance, escalation and, where agreed, team approval for online material in preparation for final signoff (either via Compliance or the relevant stakeholder/department head)
- Identify, propose, implement and ensure adherence to process improvement for the website. Influence and promote agreed standards, and proactively share throughout the department and at a wider charity level as required
- Gain agreement and manage website activities and projects working with appropriate teams/individuals as required to ensure quality deliveries are achieved
- Represent the team as requested in external meetings
- Provide detailed and accurate insight and analysis of digital output, make recommendations to inform future work and content development, and implement
- Provide timely, engaging, high-quality debt and money-related content to prospects, clients and other consumer and business audiences through the charity’s online portfolio.
- Ensure that the principles of SEO, UX, brand and social media are taken into account in the creation of content
- Proactively identify relevant content topics, formats, and improvements which will enhance our online portfolio, and lead the team to deliver these as agreed
- Maintain knowledge of changes in debt legislation and debt advice policy through review of advice libraries and appropriate training. Have responsibility for ensuring that website content is accurate and conforms to our advice policy
Experience and knowledge
- Experience of managing a branded website
- Degree-level education in a relevant discipline or equivalent practical experience
- Previous use of web-based content management systems
- Experience of writing online content
- A passionate interest in using online communications, including social media and email marketing, and experience of using these in a business setting
- Business understanding of SEO, UX and content design
- Extensive experience of an online content production environment
- experience of working alongside external agencies to brief on business needs to inform technical change
- Basic understanding and knowledge of front-end code, for example HTML, CSS (desirable)
- ICM Diploma in Money and Debt Advice, or similar (desirable)
- Online marketing qualification (desirable)
Skills and abilities
- Excellent written communication skills including the ability to produce clear, concise information for a variety of audiences
- Experience of using popular social media tools and website content management systems
- Good line management skills
