The Team: TalkTV delivers a bold voice in current affairs, debate and opinion available on linear TV, online and on the TalkTV mobile app. Drawing together world-class talent across News UK, TalkTV broadcasts from state-of-the-art studios at The News Building and is available live or on-demand 24/7.

Being an Apprentice at TalkTV: During your time with us you will earn above living wage, get full training, 4 days a week with TalkTV and 1 day a week studying – including a level 3 Production Assistant qualification – with all your course fees paid. You will also receive mentoring from the industry’s best, as well as any other equity you might need to fulfil your full potential.

The Role: You will spend time with our industry leading broadcasting team who will help you learn how to set up and operate a range of technical equipment in the gallery and studio floor to support the production and delivery of broadcast content.

You will receive mentoring and coaching bespoke to you and delivered by some of the most experienced and journalists in the industry.

At the end of the 2 year programme you’ll complete your apprenticeship with great experiences, knowledge and a network in broadcast. There is no better way to start your journalism career than an apprenticeship with us.

Day to day you will: 

  • Operate a range of technical equipment in the gallery, and on the studio floor in the production of live studio broadcasts. This may include robotic cameras, lighting, sound, autocue, and studio floor management.
  • Support the Producer and Director to deliver studio output
  • Follow and execute tasks outlined in a live news broadcast rundown, specifically iNews
  • Mic on-air talent, whist helping to maintain audio equipment
  • Manage and test comms between the gallery and the presenter
  • Manage the studio floor, being responsible for health & safety, and keeping the gallery and studio tidy at all times
  • Responsible for setting up the studio and gallery ready for broadcast, including robotic cameras, lighting, sound, monitors, and iPads
  • Prep elements ready for broadcast
  • Ensure that rundowns and scripts are updated and loaded into the Autoscript
  • Report any technical issues to the engineering team in a timely manner, so that problems are quickly addressed, with minimal impact on the output.

What we are looking for from you:

  • A passion for television production
  • You will be a good communicator who is able to move quickly and accurately under pressure in a fast-paced broadcast environment, whilst keeping calm and taking instructions
  • Flexible attitude to working hours across seven days including evenings and weekends in line with breaking news
  • You will have a strong desire to work as part of a team
  • An understanding of the TalkTV brand
  • Positive can-do attitude and good team player
