The role requires a self-motivated, energetic individual who has extensive media experience and is used to operating within a fast-paced news environment. This is an opportunity to work for a famous brand and drive reputation by amplifying positive actions. You will be responsible for editing print copy to fix spelling or grammatical errors.  Rewriting material to make it tight, punchy, to length and in house style. Write brilliant headlines.

Day to day you will: 

  • Checking facts to ensure stories are accurate and legally safe
  • Consulting with reporter/writer and desk heads to resolve issues with print copy, keeping chief subs informed of changes that arise
  • Suggest new angles
  • Maintain a wide knowledge of current affairs and trends through reading various titles as well as utilising other media platforms daily
  • Work across all four print editions of The Sun – London, Scotland, Ireland and Ulster – as required
  • Flexibility to work on a rota across a 7-day week.

What we’re looking for from you: We are looking for a talented sub-editor, who is well organised and has the ability to work under pressure.

  • Experience subbing on either a national or regional daily newspaper
  • Creative, flexible and calm under pressure with the ability to turn their hand to News and Features
  • A broad knowledge of current affairs and popular culture is essential
  • Awareness of legal and regulatory requirements
  • Excellent grasp of the English language
  • Able to work under pressure to tight and frequent deadlines
  • Well organised
  • Adaptability – able to adapt style depending on the story
