  • Full-Time

All Island Media is the home of news, business and sports coverage in the Channel Islands, reaching more than three quarters of people in Jersey every week through our stable of best-loved in-print and online titles.

As we continue to grow our audience and explore new ways of reaching them, we’re looking for talented and enthusiastic Multi-media News Reporters to work across our two core titles: Bailiwick Express and the Jersey Evening Post.

Our team works across a variety of areas, producing in-depth investigations and interviews, explainers, podcasts, and social-friendly stories poking fun at island life – in addition to all the day-to-day coverage you’d expect from a regional patch.

That might mean one day you’re interviewing the Chief Minister, another exploring the murky world of offshore finance and Russian sanctions, or probing toxic chemical pollution, reporting on a major court case, sampling the menu at a new restaurant, negotiating a NIMBY planning row, sifting through Occupation survivor records or producing a podcast with a local historian on island myths and legends… Life is as varied and vibrant as you make it.

While the role focuses on news reporting, motivated individuals will have the opportunity to develop their skills across our other brands:

  • Bailiwick Podcasts – weekly podcasts spanning politics (Politics Disassembled) news (The Interview, Beyond the Headlines), sport (The Warm Up and Cool Down), and other special feature series
  • Connect Magazine – Jersey’s leading business magazine, published monthly
  • Bailiwick Radio – produce and read hourly news bulletins for our two DNB channels, Bailiwick Hits and Bailiwick Classics
  • Pride of Jersey – annual awards series celebrating and rewarding exemplary shows of community spirit
  • Leadership Jersey – lecture events series with local and national business leaders
  • ..and other ‘top secret’ growth projects to help us reach new audiences.

What we want from you

The ideal candidate will have at least the NCTJ Level 5 Diploma and at least two years’ experience.

We’re keen to nourish and grow talent in all its forms, however, and remain open to hearing from self-starters or career-changers who can demonstrate their ability to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment.

Essential

  • A strong nose for news and ability to build contacts
  • A broad range of interests and willingness to take on any task – from daily politics to crime, environment, history, and everything in between
  • Excellent organisational skills, and ability to produce quality content to (often tight) deadlines
  • Strong command of English, with an eye for a sharp headline and top line that will pull readers in, and ability to adapt tone and style for different audiences
  • Attention to detail, with an understanding of how to complement copy with attractive imagery, videos and formatting that will engage readers
  • Good knowledge of media law and the Editors’ Code of Practice

Desired

  • Experience in producing audio and video content, which can be adapted for social
  • A full-driving licence

Company information

All Island Media is the proud parent company of the Channel Islands most prominent news brands, Bailiwick Express and the Jersey Evening Post, and the array of titles that sit under them.

We love what we do and have an amazingly diverse remit – not to mention competitive salaries and a great laid-back island lifestyle with beaches on our doorsteps and Brittany a short boat ride away.

Our newspapers, websites, magazines and podcasts together draw in around three quarters of people in Jersey every week and more than half of islanders in Guernsey.

They are very different products with different values and different strengths – but all are united by a commitment to rigorous, independent and challenging journalism that keeps our communities informed and engaged, while providing exceptional reach for advertisers.

The Jersey Evening Post (JEP) is the island’s oldest and most recognisable news brand. The daily newspaper was founded more than 130 years ago, and it remains at the heart of the island community to this day.

In recognition of that position, it was recently shortlisted in the Regional News Media Organisation of the Year category of the prestigious Society of Editors’ Media Freedom Awards 2023, having scooped the coveted title in 2021 in the previous incarnation of the awards.

Last year’s merger with Bailiwick Express under AIM brought the JEP back into local ownership for the first time in 20 years, heralding a new era for the newspaper, with exciting plans to reinvigorate its content to ensure it maintains its central community role.

As the newbie on the media scene, having only launched in 2014, online-only Bailiwick Express is the ‘challenger’ brand, having rapidly built a reputation and audience through punchy, insightful news, features, explainers and podcasts with ‘bite’.

Accessible, engaging and often provocative, its content is delivered daily into the inboxes of tens of thousands of Channel Islanders via its free lunchtime news email.
