SourceMaterial is looking for two reporters to join our growing team.

We’re looking for candidates with a record of deep-dive investigative work and a strong news sense acquired through newsroom experience, though applicants without a traditional news background will also be considered if they can demonstrate the required skills. You’ll should show instincts for what makes a good story, a thorough understanding of the journalistic process, and a sense of how good journalism can reveal and illuminate.

We’re seeking people brimming with original story ideas and the desire to develop them through best-practice reporting. We’re also keen to bring new skills to our team. That could be a foreign language, data skills, open-source techniques or coding expertise, or anything else that will add perspectives to our reporting. You’ll be keen to help raise the profile of SourceMaterial and help it grow.

SourceMaterial publishes its investigations in collaboration with mainstream partners. That means you’ll need to be comfortable with teamwork and sharing the results of their journalism.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and carry out in-depth investigations for publication by SourceMaterial and media partners across topics including business, politics, corruption and climate change.
  • Work with colleagues to develop SourceMaterial and increase the impact of its reporting.
  • Work collaboratively in a small team of experienced journalists under the direction of the Editor, SourceMaterial.

Key competencies:

  • Experience of planning and producing investigations
  • A track record of published work
  • Knowledge of journalistic practice and the ability to work to the highest journalistic standards
  • The ability to generate and develop story ideas independently
  • The ability to work collaboratively, both with mainstream media partners and SourceMaterial colleagues
