The Musicians’ Union (MU) represents over 34,000 musicians across the UK working in all sectors of the music business.

We are currently looking to recruit a Communications Officer to work in our dynamic Communications Team. This exciting role will involve responding to diverse member needs, working across a whole range of communications activities.

This role will be hybrid, with a requirement to attend the MU office in London or Manchester at least one day per week. The role will report to the Head of Communications & Government Relations and is offered on a full-time, permanent basis.

About the role

As our Communications Officer, you will be responsible for managing, editing, and uploading the Union’s online content as well as coordinating online communications with members.

You will be accountable for ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and relevance of all information on the MU website and overseeing the site ‘tree’. You will be required to edit and upload news stories and other content to the website as well as draft and send emails to members.

The role will also take the lead in managing the design and distribution of MU merchandise and will assist in the creation of MU printed publications such as the annual review and conference report. Alongside the Head of Communications & Government Relations, you will also assist with PR and media relations work.

You will need to lead on website and email analytics and reporting as well as assist in the creation and publishing of material on social media.

This role requires previous experience of drafting and editing communications as well as working with websites. It ideally requires basic photoshop and design skills and experience of PR. You will require strong communication skills as well as attention to detail, good prioritisation skills and a strong teamwork ethic.

Experience of working within the music industry or the trade union movement is useful but not a requirement.

What we offer

We are offering a salary of between £46,795 and £49,820 (SP17) based on location, a generous contribution towards a personal pension scheme, and annual leave entitlement of 30 days (as well as public holidays). We also offer excellent staff benefits and training.
