The Conversation is looking for an experienced editor to oversee its Business + Economy desk. This is a great opportunity to shape the coverage of a fast-paced online news and analysis operation and work with some of the world’s leading economists and business research experts.

Every day, The Conversation publishes articles written by experts from universities across the UK and Europe that explain and analyse the latest news, trends and research. Our stories are written for a general readership, and we aim to bridge the gap between academics and the public via a newsroom of talented journalists, reaching millions of readers around the world each month.

You will have a strong interest in business journalism and be full of ideas about how expert knowledge can help people understand the world around them. You will be an excellent editor, able to promptly translate complicated ideas into accessible language for a general audience.

You will be a self-starter, able to work effectively and at speed without supervision. But you also need excellent people skills so you can work closely with colleagues on a remote basis and with academic authors with varying levels of experience writing for the public.

On a day-to-day basis, the role will involve devising and developing ideas, liaising with the two other business editors, responding to pitches, and working with academic experts on their stories.

We are a small company that encourages innovation, and there will be opportunities to pitch ideas for long reads, article series and other products, as well as contribute to our podcast and host online panel discussions. For the right candidate, there will also be an opportunity to act as a senior editor checking articles from across our different desks.

Our HQ is in London but you don’t have to be – remote working is possible. You will have the opportunity to shape your own hours, working around key meetings and deadlines throughout the day and week. We value diversity, and are keen to receive applications from people from ethnically diverse and under-represented backgrounds.

You must be legally able to work in the UK. To apply, please email a CV and cover letter to uk-jobs@theconversation.com. Please mention Journo Resources when you apply, it really helps us out.
