The Scarborough News and its associated titles on the Yorkshire coast are looking to recruit ready, willing and able journalists for two key positions.

We are part of JPI Media Publishing Ltd, a leading media company in the UK with brands including Yorkshire Post and The Scotsman.

Our coastline is renowned for its beauty, beaches, friendly folk and relaxed way of life – but it’s a very newsy patch! The Scarborough office is in a handsome historic building a stone’s throw from the seafront.

As part of a partnership with the BBC, we are looking for a full-time Local Democracy Reporter to provide coverage of local government and political issues on the Yorkshire coast and in Ryedale.

This is an exciting position for someone with the passion and ability to generate multimedia content which engages the public and which meets standards set by the partnership in terms of quality, consistency and legal accuracy.

Depending on the candidate, remote working for this role may be feasible, with attendance at some meetings.

The successful candidate will be able to dig out the council and political stories that affect our readers’ day-to-day lives, as well as hold power to account. You will have strong digital and social media skills and be full of ideas.

Your content will appear in JPI Media’s newspapers and websites, including the Yorkshire Post, and is also made available to other media involved in the BBC scheme.
