- Starting Out
The Junior Communications Executive will support all aspects of our communications and strategy work. You will have input on a huge variety of projects, ranging from our responses to important government policies, to supporting the latest creative initiatives from top media and advertising agencies. Your role will have a key part to play in communicating our responsible growth agenda and supporting workstreams including trust, inclusion, climate action, media literacy for young people and international trade.
About the Advertising Association
Advertising is a key component of the creative economy in the UK and a major service export, crucial for funding sports, media, arts, and culture. The Advertising Association represents advertisers, agencies, and media, promoting responsible advertising and connecting the industry with government on policy matters.
Our Communications team includes the Communications Director, Head of Content and Communications Executive, and manages campaigns addressing key industry issues. We respond rapidly to policy announcements and are the key point of contact for journalists. It’s our job to know how the industry and the AA are being talked about in the trade press and to ensure that our proactive agenda is being fully and accurately reported on.
What Are We Looking For In This Role?
- Great writing and communication skills
- Ability to take the initiative and be proactive in coming up with creative communications ideas
- A willingness to ‘get stuck in’, multi-task across teams and attend industry events
Your Key Responsibilities
- Writing and updating communications materials, including weekly newsletters, press releases, and drafting content for our publications
- Producing and scheduling content for the AA’s social media channels, particularly LinkedIn, within the company tone of voice
- Writing copy and managing regular updates to the AA’s website
- Monitoring the issues affecting the UK advertising industry, specifically through media monitoring tools such as Meltwater
- Tracking and reporting of communications results including the association’s media coverage and social analytics
- Helping to produce presentations for the AA’s team to use across a range of meetings with key stakeholders
- Updating and tracking the AA’s contacts database across media and member contacts
- Liaising across multiple teams to ensure daily updates and processes are managed for the smooth-running of our regular communication materials
What You’ll Bring To The Team
Whether you are a university graduate, a career-changer, or self-taught, we care about your skills and your drive. We welcome applications from anyone who can demonstrate a passion for marketing, media, or politics through previous work, volunteering, or personal projects.
- The ability to produce high quality, accurate and engaging communications materials
- You are comfortable using social media channels, with a specific focus on LinkedIn and Instagram to share stories and build engagement
- Experience in or a strong willingness to learn how to manage website content using platforms such as Wordpress
- You can share ideas clearly and effectively with colleagues to help move projects forward
- Self-motivated and eager to learn
It’s A Bonus If You Have
We don’t expect you to check every box below. If you have experience even in a couple of these areas, then we’d love to hear from you:
- Interest in and some understanding of the UK advertising industry and politics across advertisers, agencies, media owners and tech companies
- Ability to produce social media assets or create simple graphics or newsletters – perhaps you’ve designed your own website or managed a blog; we value hands-on experience
- Experience of using applications such as Canva or Photoshop
- Experience including internships, short term projects or placements in a professional office, media or creative environment
How To Apply
To apply for this role please complete the application form and upload your CV.
Please take your time answering the application questions fully, and ensure you include a cover letter (in your own words, not AI*) explaining ‘what your favourite advert is and why’ (one side maximum). Your application answers and cover letter will be used to assess your writing skills, and incomplete applications will be automatically rejected.
Thinking of using AI in your application? Read this first – we understand the benefits of AI (you can even read more about our AI task force). However, we want to know about the real you, so please ensure your cover letter and application questions are your own thoughts and tell us about you personally.
We are a hybrid working company – requiring full time employees to be on site in our Central London office circa 3 days a week. Given the nature of the role, flexibility on working days and times may be needed to support member meetings and events.
At the Advertising Association, in addition to the support we give to our members and the industry as a whole, we are on our own journey to make our organisation a more welcoming and inclusive place to work, where everyone can succeed. We strive to recruit people from diverse backgrounds and value the advantages diverse perspectives bring to our work. We welcome applications from everyone, regardless of their age, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, physical or mental ability.
