ABOUT US
Disability Rights UK wish to hire an experienced Communications Officer to join our Sport England funded Get Yourself Active programme. The chosen candidate will be joining a highly successful team that has been working with disabled people for the last six years to change attitudes, perceptions and practices around physical activity and wellbeing.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a highly articulate and proactive individual with a flair for communications, with lived and/or professional experience of disability. The successful individual will work closely with Get Yourself Active team colleagues to manage internal and external communications and to engage new audiences and existing stakeholders. The post will play a key role in ensuring our communications are influential, informative and engaging, as well as leading on work supporting the redevelopment of our website.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Website development support and social media
- Lead on liaison with external web developers who will be redeveloping our website, sharing creative ideas to support them to create new areas to showcase the work from our projects.
- Work with external web developers to ensure accessibility is embedded in to the existing and redeveloped website to ensure the website is accessible to our audience.
- Develop content for the GYA website and keep it up-to-date with key publications, films, case studies, blogs and resources
- Develop and deliver a social media plan to increase GYA reach and relevance
- Create and commission ‘digital assets’, including photos, videos, infographics and blogs
Wider GYA communications work
- Keep abreast of news and policy developments in physical activity and sport for disabled people and share/comment where relevant
- Develop style guides and other systems to support good communications across the GYA team
- Plan and coordinate the GYA monthly newsletter; supporting colleagues to generate engaging content
- Promote new resources that are created by the GYA team via different workstreams e.g. send out press releases
- Support GYA team to promote and run online and in person events
- Build relationships with key stakeholders to gather information and case studies about disabled people getting active, barriers, stories etc.
- Use analytical tools to report on digital activity
General
- Ensure that GYA’s branding is upheld in all aspects of external communication, and that materials comply with brand guidelines.
- Contribute to the production of reports and other publications for GYA colleagues; supporting on proofreading, branding and formatting.
- Develop and maintain relationships with GYA key stakeholder organisations and individuals, working together with partner organisations where required to ensure joined up communications.
- Work with the DR UK communication officer when needed to ensure the work of GYA is promoted through DR UK networks.
- Stay up to date on digital innovations and think about how they might support and develop GYA communications
- Take an active part in team meetings / staff meetings
- Work in accordance with DR UK’s mission, strategy and values.
- Promote inclusion, celebrate diversity, and positively challenge stereotypes.
