ABOUT CROWD NETWORK

We are an ambitious podcast network based in Manchester that specialises in unforgettable stories and personalities. Using the best presenters, producers and writers, we create conversations you have to share.

Podcasts become communities when listeners feel they belong. We make ground-breaking audio that makes people feel part of something bigger than themselves.

We created Murder in House Two, American Vigilante, dot com, We Didn’t Start the Fire and The Secret History of Flight 149. We’ve had 10 million downloads already, but we’re always looking for new ideas, new stories and formats.

And we’re now looking for another brilliant Development Researcher to continue this trajectory.

At Crowd, we are welcoming, inclusive and collaborative. Therefore, we are particularly keen to hear from applicants that are underrepresented in the podcast and media industry, such as those from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds or those with disabilities.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Development Researcher is someone who can have ‘the light bulb moment’, develop the concept, find the central characters and pitch a show to the whole of Crowd.

It’s someone who knows how many layers a story needs, how many twists and turns there needs to be, and whether the audience will fall in love with it.

You will be finding the next generation of Crowd Stories titles and developing unforgettable documentaries about the stories of our lifetime. You will drive Crowd forward and make sure our next big hit is just around the corner.

You will be a people person. You’ll spend a lot of your day talking to people, building relationships, listening to stories and following leads.

The Development Researcher will embody the Crowd values of excellence, trailblazing and inclusivity in everything they do. Above all else, you have to show us you have the right attitude. You will have to leave your ego at the door. No problem is too small and no project is too big.

At Crowd Network there is no typical day. You have to be prepared for anything but the role will include:

People: Building relationships with people who have incredible stories to tell. You will have to build trust, manage sensitive information and create the right environment for stories to be shared.

Ideas: Developing formats and story arcs for an eight-part series, or structuring a new show that can re-imagine the genre altogether.

THE JOB MIGHT BE RIGHT FOR YOU IF….

You know what makes a good story.

You have experience working as a journalist or documentary maker. Ideally you will have 2-3 years experience in research and development.

You manage time effectively. You can prioritise your workload and you get stuff done.

You are a people person. You can communicate effectively and are patient, level-headed and cool under pressure.

You are motivated and driven. You’re going to take ownership of your ideas from concept through to commission.

You have a good knowledge of the podcast industry. You understand this is a thriving industry and want to be at the forefront of it.

PACKAGE

With remote working now the norm, location is less important than it once was and we encourage applications from all over.

However, we are a Manchester-based company so we are particularly keen to hear from people in the North West, or those willing to relocate.

The salary for the role is £25-30K, dependent on experience.

HOW TO APPLY:

Email careers@crowdnetwork.co.uk quoting CNDR22 in the subject line with the following:

Your CV, cover letter and 250 words on the best documentary-style podcast you’ve listened to in the last 12 months. We want to know what you liked about it, and what you’d change to make it even better.

Applications close on Friday April 8th 2022.
