Please note that this role is only open to students who are members of the Student Publication Association and who are attending the 2024 conference in Bristol. This is part of our annual opportunities scheme for students who attend the conference and is only open to members of the SPA.

Are you coming to #SPANC24? Would you like to get paid to write pieces about the conference, which will be published on the UK’s leading journalism advice website?

Journo Resources is looking for up to two student journalists to work on conference coverage for their website, contributing pieces to our ‘Day in the Life’ section. You’ll be paid £180 per day of agreed conference coverage.

This is also a great chance to network more closely with speakers at the conference. Previous delegates have interviewed Lukanyo Mnyanda (correspondent at the Financial Times), Ruth David (London bureau chief at Bloomberg), Helena Horton (environment reporter at The Guardian), Jess Brammar (former editor of HuffPost UK, and many more.

What You’ll Do:

  • Speak with our editors before the conference to identify 2–4 speakers on one day you might like to speak to;
  • Outreach to these journalists in the run-up to the conference to arrange an interview;
  • Conduct short 15–20 minute interviews with them at the conference and send through your copy. We’ll help you with a suggested interview structure and questions if needed.

What You’ll Get:

  • You’ll be paid our standard day rate of £180 for your work, as agreed beforehand, and paid via invoice when you submit your transcripts.
  • All pieces will be published on Jouno Resources, under your byline.
  • A full reference for any future job applications, if required.

To Apply

Please send a short note to hello@journoresources.org.uk by 11.59pm on Sunday, March 24, explaining:

  • Who you are and which student publication you currently write for;
  • Why you’d like to write for us and how it could help your career;
  • Links to up to three stories you are proud of writing. Please don’t worry if you don’t have three — this is just a maximum!
