Are you an ambitious storyteller looking for an opportunity to develop your journalism career? Falkland Islands Television (FITV) is seeking a motivated Broadcast Journalist to join our newsroom in the South Atlantic.

This is a rare opportunity to gain hands-on experience across reporting, presenting, filming, editing and digital content production while living and working in one of the world’s most unique locations.

As part of a small and dynamic team, you’ll take on responsibilities that would often take years to reach in larger media organisations. From day one, you’ll be trusted to find stories, conduct interviews, produce content and help shape local news coverage.

The Role

As a Broadcast Journalist, you will play a key role in the day-to-day operation of our newsroom. You’ll be expected to identify stories, build relationships within the community, create engaging content and contribute to our television and digital platforms.

Responsibilities include:

  • Researching, developing and pitching story ideas
  • Conducting interviews and gathering information for news and feature stories
  • Filming news reports, interviews and community events
  • Writing scripts and preparing content for broadcast.
  • Editing video content using industry-standard software
  • Presenting news stories and feature segments on camera
  • Producing content for FITV’s social media and digital platforms
  • Assisting with special productions
  • Representing FITV professionally within the community
  • Maintaining high editorial, ethical and production standards

No two days are the same at FITV. Coverage may include:

  • Politics and government
  • Community events and local initiatives
  • Environmental and conservation issues
  • Sports and cultural activities
  • Human-interest features
  • Education and youth programmes
  • Business and economic developments
  • Breaking news and developing stories

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • Degree in Journalism, Media, Communications or a related field or NCTJ or equivalent journalism training
  • Familiarity with Adobe Premiere Pro or similar editing platforms
  • Experience using video cameras and editing software
  • Full, clean driving licence
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Competent computer skills and willingness to learn new technology.

Desirable

  • Experience in journalism, communications, media production, marketing or content creation
  • Strong news judgement and storytelling ability
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Confidence interviewing contributors and members of the public
  • Experience creating and managing social media content
  • On-camera presenting or public speaking experience
