Are you an adventurous, self-motivated journalism graduate looking for a unique opportunity to kick-start your career? Falkland Islands Television (FITV) is seeking a graduate Broadcast Journalist to join our small but dynamic team in the South Atlantic.

About

The Falkland Islands, a British Overseas Territory, are located 300 miles off the coast of South America, with a population of around 3,500 people. The climate is comparable to the coast of Northern Scotland, and the community is tight-knit and welcoming. FITV is the sole local television station in the Falkland Islands, producing a weekly community news programme, Falklands in Focus, monthly in-depth feature, Talking Point, and digital news updates for our website and social media platforms.

The Role

At FITV, you won’t just be a reporter—you’ll be involved in every aspect of producing television content, from filming and editing to presenting and scriptwriting. Expect to cover everything from local politics and court cases to wildlife conservation and historical features. You will be responsible for:

  • Generating story ideas and pitching them in daily production meetings.
  • Researching, interviewing, and gathering content for news packages.
  • Writing scripts and voiceovers for broadcast.
  • Filming, directing, and editing news stories.
  • Presenting and producing pre-recorded segments for “Falklands in Focus”
  • Managing FITV’s website and social media platforms.
  • Networking and building relationships within the community.
  • Ensuring compliance with media law and industry standards.

Essential Skills

  • A degree in Broadcast Journalism or TV Production.
  • Strong technical skills in Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and camera operation.
  • Excellent communication skills and fluency in English.
  • A full, clean UK driving licence.

Desirable Attributes (Not Essential, But a Bonus!)

  • Outgoing and naturally curious, with an instinct for storytelling.
  • Strong news judgment and the ability to work efficiently under pressure.
  • Proficient at posting content on Facebook, YouTube, and other social media.
  • A self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Enthusiastic about embracing the culture, history, and community of the Falklands.
