Journalism Graduate and Trainee Schemes: The Complete List

Aimed at graduates who want to start a career in social media management, this graduate scheme with The Advanced Group will allow you to unleash your creativity and support your professional growth.

This is a chance for mid-career journalists to study a media and journalism project at the University of Oxford. There are 30 spots available, and the project will last three to six months for journalists worldwide.

A paid, two-week work shadowing scheme for BAME applicants wishing to pursue sport. Includes access to accommodation.

In association with Netflix and aimed at those with up to three years of experience in television, this scheme offers training, mentoring, and an eight-week placement to those who want to take their next steps in documentary development.

A fast-track to editorship at hyperlocal East London publisher Social Streets. Across 18 months you’ll gain skills across editing, content strategy and SEO, and long-form writing.

A paid eight-month traineeship within a Scottish independent television production company, specifically for those who are underrepresented. It also includes full training throughout the placement.

This is a paid apprenticeship to train as a senior video journalist. You’ll be working on social media platforms and on flagship news shows like Kent Tonight, and the radio station KMfm.

A two year programme, paid £24,500 pa, will teach you the ins and outs of entertainment and trends writing, whilst keeping a close eye on SEO, editing, commissioning and FOIs. You’ll receive mentorship throughout, all while focusing on Gen Z topics.

As part of their Higher Education/Adult ELT team, this entry-level role supports the development of print and digital English language teaching products. Ideal for candidates familiar with publishing tools, this role will provide hands-on experience across content formats and editorial processes.

Paid £27,000pa, this six-month graduate scheme with Seahorse Environmental will let you sink your teeth into their complex campaigns , all whilst learning about policy and communications. Must have a passion for climate and social justice.
