We’ll start off with the basics first – yes, you can do an apprenticeship in journalism. No degree needed. There is a growing list of apprenticeships across the UK media and, as ever, we’re here to ensure you can keep track of them all.

The Sky News Journalism Apprenticeship offers hands-on experience in a fast-paced newsroom, plus college training leading to a Level 5 qualification and NCTJ Diploma. The salary is listed as £27,010 pa.

WarnerBros Journalist Assistant Intern – Last closed November 28, expected to re-open soon
An internship for a French-speaking intern, who will be part of the WarnerBros Paris-based CNN office. They will assist the local team in producing TV and written reports.

Bloomberg TV Journalism Apprenticeship – Last closed December 22, expected to re-open soon

Evening Standard Journalism Apprenticeship – Closed January 5
A two year contract where successful applicants complete an apprenticeship with the Evening Standard. Paid, with an NCTJ qualification.

Apple News Fellowship, Apple Media Services Development Programme – Closed January 31
A 12 month scheme with the curation team at Apple News – no degree needed. You’ll also complete a personal project.

BBC Journalism Apprenticeship Advanced (Welsh Language/Ym Cymraeg) – Closed January 8
An advanced apprenticeship scheme for applicants aged 18 or over, in numerous locations across Wales. Successful applicants will have a chance to study and learn on the job for a Level 7 Apprenticeship and the industry recognised NCTJ National Qualification in Journalism (NQJ)

Journalist Researcher Apprenticeship Level 5, BBC Salford Sport – Closed January 8
This Level 5 Journalist Researcher apprenticeship at the BBC offers a starting salary of £20,475, providing a unique opportunity for school leavers or career changers to receive top-notch journalism training. Work alongside BBC news and sports teams, develop journalistic skills, and pursue an NCTJ Diploma, with the apprenticeship typically leading to a Journalism Researcher role at the BBC upon completion.

Journalist Apprentice, Newsquest (London) – Closes January 17
Paid National Apprenticeship Wage for the first year while you complete your NCTJ at Darlington College. You will spend five days working on the job, and one day studying.

Baltic Apprenticeships Content Creator – Closed January 28
Plop that creative hat on! Viessmann Limited, based in Telford, is searching for a Content Creator to join their marketing team. You will be supporting the Digital Marketing manager to deliver engaging content while getting to grips with monitoring digital activity, advertising campaigns and creating videos for social media.  You’ll also work towards your Level 3 Content Creator qualification.

BBC Journalism Fast Track Apprenticeship – Closed February 12
No NCTJ? No problem. This fast-track apprenticeship into journalism will place you across BBC newsrooms in the UK. You will learn on the job and develop the skills needed to become a Junior Researcher.

BBC Production Fast Track Apprenticeship – Closed February 12
Just like the Journalism Fast Track scheme, this flagship apprenticeship offers a streamlined pathway into production. You will learn from some of the best producers in the industry while gaining skills to become one of the following: a Runner; a Junior Researcher; a Content Assistant; an Edit Assistant; or a Technical Operator.

BBC Production Advanced Trainee Scheme – Closed February 14
A paid traineeship and apprenticeship offering extensive training and expertise in radio, TV and production. Broad experiences on offer, including (but not limited to) opportunities to cover current affairs, education, drama and sport. 

BBC Production Apprenticeship Level 3 (Songs of Praise) – Closed February 16
An exciting 15-month Production Apprentice opportunity in Manchester with CTVC, working on *Songs of Praise* and other productions. Ideal for those passionate about TV, storytelling, and creative problem-solving! Paid, and no CV necessary.

BBC Production Apprenticeship Level 3 (Doc Hearts) – Closed February 16
This is another fantastic 15-month apprenticeship, where you will be based in London working on titles like “Doc Hearts”.You will gain hands-on experience in media production while working towards a qualification in broadcasting. Paid, and no CV required.

Dazed Media Internship – Closed February 24
This is a full-time, paid, and flexible internship with an option for remote working. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK. They must be aged 18 – 25 and can apply regardless of economic background. 

Bloomberg Apprenticeship: Broadcast Production Assistant – Closed February 28
A 12-15 month programme starting in September, combines practical training with a curated education plan.

PR and Communications Assistant Apprenticeship, Nuclear Restoration Services (Formerly Magnox Ltd) – Closed February 29
A two year apprenticeship where you will work on internal and external communications for a high-profile industry, supporting a team managing relationships and activities across the UK. Ideal for those aged 17 or over with GCSEs in English, an interest in Nuclear/engineering, time management skills, attention to detail, and a creative, proactive approach. ITV News Traineeship  Closed February 29
This is a nine-month programme in which you will be based in one of ITV’s regional newsrooms. You will receive training and work as a journalist in the ITV newsroom.

Spotify Internships 2025 – Closed March 15
Get to grips with podcasting and original content creation with the team over at Spotify. This is a paid internship, lasting 10 weeks and starting in June. You can see other internships here.

Launchpad Internship, Framestore – Closed March 22
Framestore’s prestigious Launchpad summer internship offers students paid opportunities to work with award-winning teams across various departments. The Telegraph Newsroom Apprenticeship – Closed April 5
It’s back! The Telegraph are again looking for talented and ambitious apprentices to join their editorial publishing team in January 2023. This two-year programme will lead to top-level journalism training alongside NCTJ accreditation, alongside mentorship and on-the-job experience.

The Juice Academy – Closed April 18
Currently looking for apprentices to fill up to 20 exciting social media/content production vacancies. During your first year, you will be paid a minimum salary of £12,000.

Digital Production Apprentice, 4Creative – Closed April 22
Based in Leeds, this apprenticeship will see you take the reigns of campaign delivery and content creation. This can include creating footage requests, quality assurance, social research, sharing digital team work, ideas pitching and many more.

Daytime and Features, Commisioning Apprentice – Closed April 22
In this paid apprenticeship, you will provide administrative support to the Daytime & Features team. Based in Glasgow, you will manage diaries and take charge of program journey oversight. 

Press Apprentice, 4Creative – Closed April 22
This apprenticeship will provide an array of press experiences. One day might see you handling inquiries and uploading press releases, whereas another may see you providing program info to journalists, managing media, and using social media for outreach.

Junior Announcer Apprentice, 4Creative – Closed April 22
This is another great apprenticeship opportunity at 4Creative. In this role, you will write compelling promotional scripts for Channel 4’s streaming service, refine them based on feedback, and deliver them live. Additionally, you will record and edit audio content for both linear channels and streaming platforms, ensuring alignment with marketing messaging and prompt response to various business needs.

Platform Editor Apprentice, 4Creative – Closed April 22
Yet another apprenticeship to apply for within 4Creative, this one is based in London. In this role, you will be enhancing Channel 4’s streaming platform for optimal user experience, fostering viewer engagement and retention. Some of your responsibilities will include aiding the editorial team, effectively promoting content, managing shows, curating data, and collaborating on platform tasks.

4Creative really do have apprenticeships covering all bases. This one will cover all aspects of digital marketing and provide valuable experience for anyone aspiring to break into PR and communications. 

Marketing Analytics Apprentice, 4Creative – Closed April 22
Another marketing apprenticeship with 4Creative, this one being based in London but with a hybrid option. You will be overseeing the data and analytical side of marketing, while dipping your toes into data segments for audience activation, and sourcing new and existing data sources from a variety of technology platforms.

Picture Editor Apprentice, 4Creative – Closed April 22
If that title alone doesn’t grab your interest, maybe the tasks will. In this role you’ll be in charge of designing captivating imagery for all content. You’ll learn how to caption, tag, and organize them in the asset management system. You’ll also collaborate with external picture desks, and support Picture Commissioners in brainstorming photoshoot ideas.

Marketing and Social Media Assistant, Dobson Fine Jewellery – Closed April 23
As a Multi-Channel Marketer Apprentice, you’ll be contributing to impactful marketing campaigns focused on jewellery and watches. Your role will see you implementing marketing strategies, responding to customer inquiries, and providing administrative support.

Production Internship, AlbourneTV – Closed May 4
A chance to get some real-world experience operating within a TV communications team. You will learn how to build relationships with shareholders, develop knowledge of best practice, and how to develop compelling content. No academic experience required but a working knowledge of Adobe software, especially Premiere Pro, would be beneficial.

The Financial Times Newsroom Apprenticeship Programme – Closed May 9
Get your financial journalism career underway here with this partnership programme between The Financial Times and Manchester Evening News. This new scheme is aimed at helping young people from under-represented groups start a career in journalism. Degree not required. 

Reach PLC Journalism Apprenticeships – Closed May 13
There are several apprenticeships available in Liverpool, Newcastle, London, Cardiff, Bristol, Manchester, Nottingham, Glasgow, and Birmingham. These paid apprenticeships pay a Living Wage (depending on region) and give you the chance to explore storytelling, interviewing, and camera work within your community. You will also receive mentorship and connect with fellow interns for support and growth.

COPA Beat the Bias Internship – Closed May 26
You’ll need to be from a minority ethnic background and aged 18 – 25 for this opportunity. This internship will give you a 360 experience of the world of football marketing and creative advertising, access to industry contacts from COPA90, and invaluable behind-the-scenes experience in sports media.

Rad Scotland TV Traineeship – Closed June 5
Work alongside an independent Scottish TV company for eight months. This is a paid opportunity which includes full training throughout the placement. This is especially geared for people who are underrepresented in the industry.

Apprentice Content Creator, Redditch United Football Club – Closed June 12
Kickstart your career in sports journalism with hands-on experience alongside Redditch United Football Club as an Apprentice Content Creator. You’ll work towards your Level 3 in Content Creation while working to promote grassroots football. Pays £15,704 pa in the first year, with an increase in the following 6 months. 

Newsquest Content Creator Level 3 Apprentice – Closed June 15
Kickstart your career in journalism and earn while you learn in one of Newsquest’s busiest newsrooms. Based in Warrington, you will learn all the tools of the trade while studying for your NCTJ. Pays £14,918 pa.

Content Creator Apprenticeship, BBC and FirstLookTV – Closed June 17

Based in Covent Garden, London, this apprenticeship pays £25,282.40 for 42.5 hours per week. This opportunity focuses on skills in sound, video, and broadcast technologies in live event production within the performing arts industry. You’ll train with some of the busiest stages in the world, using state-of-the-art technology and experienced mentors.

This is a Level 3, paid apprenticeship role with the BBC where you will maximise understanding of digital media platforms while briefing, researching and preparing messages to maximise audience engagement.

You’ll be over in Liverpool for this one. As a Content Creator, you will work alongside the founder to create short videos, Reels, and TikTok’s using the vast library of raw footage from the network of cameras. You will also study towards a Level 3 Content Creator apprenticeship training course.

Media Trust and Amazon Ads: Access All Areas – Closed August 17
Open to individuals aged 18+, this is a paid work experience programme for candidates from less advantaged backgrounds across the UK—with travel and accommodation fully covered. No prior experience is required; the programme includes a week-long placement at Amazon’s London officeand 1:1 mentoring, running from September to October 2025.

HTSI is offering a 16-week internship, paid London Living Wage. Interns support editorial duties including fact-checking, research, and administration, with opportunities to pitch and write for print and online; applications close 24 August 2025.
