We’re expanding our animation and production team, and as such we’re looking for a new team member to assist with video productio

📝 About the Role

Ideally, applicants should have a university level degree in a relevant field of study and should be able to demonstrate relevant experience. However, applicants with a strong field of experience but no degree will still be considered.

The successful applicant will be expected to work with our journalists to produce fully animated and edited videos in the TLDR style. In a standard day this will include: creating custom graphics and animations to bring the video’s story to life, editing video and audio elements, and selecting relevant footage and b-roll. Essentially, we’re looking for someone who can be handed a script, and is able to turn it into a fully produced TLDR video.

As a news business, we work on tight timelines, requiring all applicants to be motivated, independent and able to work efficiently.

While this role doesn’t require political knowledge, all applicants should have an interest in, and familiarity with, the news topics we cover.

As a growing company, each member of staff is sometimes expected to take part in activities and tasks that are not usually part of their work load.

This is a full time role, with the successful applicant expected to work 40 hours a week. We operate under a hybrid working model, the employee is expected to work in our office in central London at least three days a week. As such, all applicants must be able to prove their right to live and work in the UK.

We are particularly keen to receive a wide range of applications from people with diverse social, national, ethnic, gender and other backgrounds because lived experience and personal understanding of certain topics can be invaluable in the work we do.

As a politically neutral organisation, we ask that candidates disclose any affiliations they have with political parties. Affiliation is not, however, a disqualifying factor.

The successful applicant will be offered a salary between £35,000 and £45,000 (depending on experience).

📌 How to Apply

In order to test your skills and eye for design, we’d like you to submit a test video.

We’ve put together a new, fictional script for you to turn into a video. We’ve also had one of our hosts record the voiceover of the video (like always they’re not perfect, so it does contain retakes which will need to be edited out). We’d like you to turn this voiceover into a fully produced video, in our style.

We will be apprising the submissions based on:

  • The quality of the production and edit

  • How well the submission matches our TLDR style – you should be aiming for a video that would feel at home on one of our channels alongside our other content, specifically our TLDR EU channel

  • The clarity of the animations and graphics – how well the visuals you choose support the storytelling and clarify the message of the video.

While you’re welcome to use b-roll footage, as we often do in our videos, we won’t be assessing the quality or acquisition of these files. We have access to huge databases of licensable clips, but we understand that you won’t. As such, we will be judging the tone of clips selected rather than their sourcing.

Feel free to use whichever video editing and animation software you feel most comfortable in. We have specific workflows at TLDR which are easy to learn and very efficient, so we’re more looking for your style and ability to replicate our aesthetic than for specific technical skills.

The section of the script is only relatively short, so we’d request that you don’t spend more than about 2 hours working on this from beginning to end.

Once you’re happy with your video, or once 2 hours has elapsed, please upload the video to YouTube and submit a link using the form at the apply link.

What you’ll need:

At TLDR we don’t use generative AI in the production of our videos, and we have stringent guidelines to restrict our use of AI more generally. As such, you may not use generative AI when creating your application. If we detect AI usage or have suspicion to believe that AI was used in the creation of your application, the application will be immediately rejected. Additionally, the successful applicant will not be permitted to use AI in a way that violates our policy at any time during their employment. Failure to comply with the policy can lead to termination. You can read more about our AI policy within our manifesto.

TLDR; please don’t use AI in this application, and if you feel you need to use AI, you’re likely not suited for this role as AI also isn’t permitted during employment at TLDR.

If you have any additional questions, please email hiring@tldrnews.co.uk

Applications will close no later than April 27th 2026, although we may choose to close early should we receive enough high quality applicants. As such, we’d encourage you to submit your application as soon as you’re able.
