Sifted is looking for an experienced social media manager to join our fast growing team covering the world of European tech and startups.

It will be your mission to grow our social media presence, find creative and original ways to share our content and dive headfirst into the data to figure out what’s working — and what isn’t.

If you have heard of Sifted we hope you will already be excited to think about joining us. If you haven’t then you will understand why we are looking to grow the marketing team! If the thought of helping the European tech ecosystem be more successful, while also developing a great brand and business excites you, then please get in touch.

About Sifted

Sifted is a new media and data platform reporting on the world of technology and startups in Europe, backed by the Financial Times. In two years we’ve become known for our high-quality journalism and fresh viewpoints, and a must-read for many founders, investors and people working in startups across the continent.

We have grown from a standing start to 600,000 monthly unique visitors, and over 80,000 newsletter subscribers.

We’re now a team of around 50 people, made up of full time and part time, employees and contractors, across the UK and various European countries — and we’re growing fast.

Our team of reporters, based across Europe, aren’t chasing after the latest funding announcements or product releases; plenty of other sites have got that covered. We are telling the stories that should be told — big startup trends, compelling company profiles and the everyday lessons that come from growing a business and messing up along the way. And our rapidly expanding commercial, tech, marketing and intelligence teams are ensuring that we can continue to deliver an ever broader range of products and services to as wide an audience as possible.

The Role

Reporting to the head of marketing but working closely with the editorial team, you will be responsible for growing our social media presence, increasing engagement and driving organic traffic to our website. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing our social media content schedule across LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook
  • Developing the social media strategy to significantly increase our reach, the engagement of our content and the top of the funnel traffic to our website
  • Rigorously applying test and learn methodology to continually improve social performance
  • Reviewing our current social media management tools and implementing new tools and processes if necessary
  • Identifying growth opportunities across the marketing funnel by finding new ways to acquire and engage our customers
  • Working with the wider marketing team to develop user personas, build customer acquisition strategies and convert more readers to paying members
  • Helping the editorial team understand their content performance across social and championing ways in which journalists can best leverage their own social followings

What Skills Do You Need?

We’re looking for an experienced marketeer with proven social media experience and excellent copywriting skills. This role straddles the marketing and editorial teams. You will need to be creative and articulate with the ability to write eye-catching copy, whilst also having a strong understanding of the strategies and tactics required to leverage social traffic.

Must haves:

  • Previous social media management experience
  • Excellent communication skills and good understanding of tone of voice
  • A test and learn mindset. We want somebody who can really understand what content is performing well, why it and to be constantly trying to optimise our output

Nice to have:

  • Experience in publishing or a subscriptions oriented business
  • An interest in the word of startups
  • An eye for great UX, UI and design as well as marketing

What Are We Like To Work For?

We have a small-company mindset, but big company goals, and can draw on many of the strengths and benefits of a world-respected brand, the Financial Times. We’re friendly, hard-working and passionate about what we do. We have a flat structure, collaborate across disciplines and everyone has an impact across many areas of the business. We value feedback, honesty and clear communication.

What we offer

  • £26-£35k salary, depending on experience, plus equity
  • Shiny new technical equipment – we’re a Mac shop generally, but are open to whatever suits your needs

  • 25 days of annual leave plus the usual public holidays
  • Flexible working hours and the option to work from home some days
  • Weekly team lunches (virtual for now) and seemingly endless snacks (when in the office)
