- Apprenticeship
KMTV is looking for the next generation of senior video journalists to join our award-winning newsroom in Kent.
Reaching more than 250,000 households across Kent on Freeview, cable and online, KMTV produces high-quality local journalism as part of the UK Local Television network. Our reporters deliver original content across television, digital and radio, including reporting and presenting, with work regularly appearing on major platforms including ITVX.
From day one, you will be reporting and presenting real stories that matter, with genuine editorial responsibility in a busy professional newsroom. This is not a training exercise. You will be doing the job. You will join the team behind our flagship daily programme Kent Tonight, producing original stories for television, our website and social platforms. You will regularly report on-air, present your own stories, create television packages, and develop stories from idea to broadcast.
Kent is one of the best places in the UK to learn your craft. From high profile murder investigations to being on the frontline of British politics, our journalists cover stories with genuine national relevance.
Our journalists also produce content for KentOnline and present bulletins on kmfm, giving you hands-on experience across modern, multi-platform journalism.
You will also have opportunities to work on longer form content with our Creative Team, who regularly produce documentaries and children’s television.
This two-year apprenticeship will see you train alongside other senior journalists while covering stories across Kent. On completion, you will achieve the National Qualification for Journalists (NQJ), the industry’s benchmark qualification for senior reporters.
You will also contribute to programmes including The Kent Politics Show, Invicta Sport and BASSed in Kent.
KMTV is widely regarded as the UK’s leading local television newsroom for news, with award-winning journalism that consistently sets the standard. That quality is reflected in our training outcomes, with a 100% record of our journalists achieving Distinction grades in the portfolio element of the NQJ.
KMTV has a strong track record of developing talent. Our journalists consistently progress into non-entry level roles at organisations including the BBC, ITV, Sky News and CBS.
We are committed to broadening the diversity of our newsroom and particularly welcome applications from those who may not previously have felt the industry was open to them.
The apprenticeship begins in August 2026 and is ideal for graduates completing their studies this year.
