The senior staff writer will play a crucial role in creating must-have content for best-in-class and aspiring leaders, as part of a dynamic and highly-intelligent content team. You will be at the heart of content creation working across all channels of a multimedia portfolio.

Your primary responsibility will be to deliver content that builds the brand’s audience digitally, with the key objectives of increasing logged-in, registered and highly engaged users for the website to support paid content revenue growth.

The senior staff writer will generate a constant stream of ideas for fresh content and new editorially-driven products to serve the leadership community.

Person Specification

  • A creative, highly-motivated journalist who is able to produce daily stories and longer features to Management Today’s style

  • Razor-sharp writing skills to ensure all content is of the highest quality and accuracy

  • A nose for spotting a unique angle to a story as well as a clear understanding of the kind of entertaining, shareable content to help grow traffic and drive engagement

  • A desire to produce award-winning journalism

  • The ability to remain calm under pressure in the face of daily and weekly deadlines

  • The ability to build exceptional contacts

  • A team player able to adapt to and operate effectively in a fast-paced and evolving environment

  • Willingness to attend occasional evening events

  • Knowledge of business journalism – and an interest in leadership

  • Understanding of media law

  • Willingness to work 3 days a week in our Twickenham HQ or at meetings in town, 2 days from home

  • A portfolio of published articles demonstrating your competence and versatility as a writer

Core Responsibilities

  • Content creation for our newly-relaunched website and our upcoming podcast, with a focus on increasing digital engagement

  • Sourcing, writing and editing exclusive features, opinion and analysis pieces, interviews and other forms of content that offer practical insight to leaders

  • Secure, write and record interviews with high-profile CEOs for our website and podcast

  • Monitor social media and other publications to highlight potential stories or topics

  • Build long-term relationships with contacts

  • Ensure the MT site is always looking fresh, relevant and sharp, to showcase our content

  • Running our social media channels to ensure our content is being read by a wide audience

  • Covering conferences and reporting on key leadership events, generating contacts and fresh features ideas
