The Stage, the publication for the theatre industry, has an excellent full-time opportunity for a talented, multi-skilled layout sub-editor to work on a well-established title.

We require an eagle-eyed, meticulous sub with strong InDesign and Photoshop skills, and experience of web publishing platforms, to work across web and print, ensuring that quality meets the highest levels of accuracy and house style.

As a production sub-editor, you will be reporting to The Stage’s production editor. Work will be split evenly across web and print. The role will require a precision for copy editing and a flair for eye-catching headlines, as well as the ability to hook online readers with grabby social media posts.

Main purpose of the role:

To sub and publish content across The Stage’s web and print publications, ensuring that quality meets the highest levels of accuracy and house style.

To edit and publish web stories, reviews, features and columns, as well as lay out newspaper pages using InDesign, with both flair and attention to detail.

Key responsibilities and tasks include, but are not limited to:
• Contribute to editorial production, following quality, house style and speed of delivery requirements

• Sub and post copy to the website using The Stage’s web publishing platform

• Sub and lay out allocated pages for weekly paper using InDesign

For a full job description, please see available documents for download via the below application link.

Applicants must have strong InDesign page-layout skills, experience of using web publishing platforms, eg WordPress, a keen eye for detail and the ability to work on their own initiative and prioritise tasks.

A journalism qualification would be advantageous, as would an interest in, and knowledge of, UK theatre. This role would suit a proactive all-rounder who enjoys web publishing as much as print layout work and is keen to develop their sub-editing career as part of a busy and multi-skilled production department.

(Please note, while the role involves writing tasks including headlines and social media posts, this is not a writing role.)
