About Kempton Steam Museum
Kempton Steam Museum is home to the world’s largest working triple-expansion steam engine. Operated by a passionate community of volunteers, the museum delivers a unique visitor experience celebrating engineering, water heritage and community engagement. We run public steaming events, special events (such as Kempton Lates and Kempton Tours) and are aiming to significantly grow our learning programmes and offering for families.
As we enter our next phase of development, we are looking for a talented and proactive Marketing Officer to help drive audience growth, strengthen our brand presence, and attract more families and visitors, through consistent and compelling marketing.
Role Summary
We are seeking a creative, content-focused and organised Marketing Officer to support our marketing activity for 2 days per week on an initial 6-month contract. This role will play a key part in expanding awareness of the museum and converting that awareness into visits and ticket sales through strong, consistent content-led marketing.
The role reports to the Trustee responsible for Marketing and Communications and works closely with volunteers, staff and event leads via our Operations Committee.
We have a strong desire to extend the role beyond the initial 6 months – should the contract prove successful and funding allow.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate, content and marketing professional to help us shape our incredible museum and heritage space and inspire new generations.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and deliver content-led marketing plans for our annual calendar of events – including steaming weekends, special events and family activities (across social, web, email and advertising)
- Create, capture and edit engaging on-site photo and video content to promote events and tell the museum’s story across social media (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok)
- Keep the museum website updated with clear, accessible and accurate event and visitor information (via WordPress)
- Plan and send regular email newsletters and event announcements via Mailchimp (whilst maintaining and growing the museum’s mailing list in line with data protection best practice)
- Manage the Museum’s Google Ads, utilising potential Ads Grants
- Collaborate with our Volunteer Coordinator to bring awareness and new recruitment of our volunteering opportunities via marketing
- Track key marketing metrics such as engagement, reach, website traffic and event ticket performance, sharing short quarterly insights and recommendations with the Operations Committee and event
- Be a guardian of brand consistency across brand tone, imagery and messaging across all channels
- Support press releases and local media outreach, where appropriate
