We are the leading training, networking and campaigning organisation for journalists in the UK and we need an enthusiastic intern looking to kickstart a brilliant career in journalism.

Women in Journalism has more than 1000 active members ,1500 newsletter subscribers, 2000 IG &  18.6k Twitter followers – all of which we are hoping to grow especially in the regions.

We welcome women at all stages of their career, from students to leading media professionals. We run over twenty events a year – online, live and hybrid going forward – featuring top industry talent at seminars, talks and parties and  before the pandemic at venues including the House of Commons, City and Westminster universities. We also run an annual mentoring scheme for 150 women and offer a £4000 WIJ award for innovative projects.

Can you support us on social media? We would need help on twitter, IG, FB and engaging as many people as possible with our events.

We are all volunteers, apart from our part-time administrator, and will pay £200 a month for three hours work per week, plus expenses, for travel. We will also give you a year’s free membership, a priceless place on our committee and free tickets to all events and parties – virtual or real. Free attendance at events and committee meetings are not counted as working hours.

The internship is a brilliant way of boosting your personal development and enhancing your contacts. You will also be offered a mentor without having to apply for the scheme. The role is for 6 months, and WIJ will provide a reference from our chair at the end. Previous interns are now working at the Daily Mail, Bloomberg, BBC Glasgow  and as a successful freelances.

This role is for someone who is sociable and outgoing, well organised with lots of initiative; top notch social media, digital and blogging skills; the ability to turn around correct, accurate copy fast and above all buckets of enthusiasm for journalism. You would also be offered 20 minutes a month of feedback and advice from our top social media / communications consultants.

The role is open to people of all ages, including those who are taking a career break and want to stay connected.
