Full Fact is looking for a Social Media Officer to help maximise our impact online, building on an already strong social following across Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Full Fact fights bad information. Our team of independent fact checkers and campaigners works to find, expose and counter the harm it does. Bad information ruins lives. It promotes hate, damages people’s health, and hurts democracy. We deserve better.

Since launching a decade ago, Full Fact has successfully campaigned for change, whether improved government data or better media corrections processes. We hold high profile journalists, politicians and organisations to account, and are developing world-leading automated fact checking technology to face digital challenges head on.

This is an exciting time to join Full Fact. You will be joining a communications team which has grown in the last year, working across press and media, fundraising and public policy. We are strengthening the team’s brand, and doing more to equip our audiences to take action on our behalf.

But there’s much more to be done.

As Social Media Officer, you will run Full Fact’s social media channels and create content that maximises the impact and reach of our work.

You will be immersed in digital culture, with an understanding of how it informs and challenges traditional news and media. Memes, hashtags and stories are your thing – and you’re always on the hunt for new tools and opportunities to create content.

You’ll bring a track record of successful digital campaigning, including use of ads, and an understanding of how analytics can inform and support your work.

You will work with colleagues in fundraising, press and policy to help Full Fact make our case, win support for our work, stop bad information in its tracks and give the public the accuracy they deserve.

You will be responsible for –

  • Engaging and growing Full Fact’s digital following
  • Rapid and responsive day to day content planning, working with colleagues across the wider communications and editorial teams
  • Establishing key metrics and analytics for online impact
  • Putting Full Fact at the centre of social debate, monitoring and engaging with key influencers
  • Maximising reactive opportunities for Full Fact online, eg. breaking news, election campaigns
  • An engaged, healthy community of followers around Full Fact’s work, through content strategy and moderation where necessary
  • Encouraging a digital-first approach to content across the Full Fact team

The ideal candidate will have –

  • Experience managing social media, eg. for a campaign, charity, think tank, or high profile individual or brand.
  • Experience of writing clearly, concisely and persuasively for a wide variety of audiences and on a wide variety of issues.
  • Demonstrable understanding of key platforms, social metrics and online advertising
  • Experience crafting effective content using visual design, video and copy
  • Ability to make sound judgement calls, often to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently.
  • Attention to detail and an accurate and careful approach to work.
  • An understanding of how social media  fits into the work of a wider communications team.
  • A commitment to Full Fact’s mission and impartiality.

We’re looking for someone with long-term potential who can think beyond your own specialism and contribute to Full Fact’s communications as a whole.
