We are an online news and analysis website, and publish daily articles by experts from universities across the UK and Europe. Our stories are written for a general readership, and we aim to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and the public via a newsroom of editors.

We are looking for a Commissioning Editor to join our Business and Economy desk on a 6-month contract, working alongside the Business Editor.

You will come with ideas and a strong interest in business coverage, from big tech companies to popular consumer stories.

The coronavirus pandemic has added new and evolving strands to our coverage, and the role will involve seeking out articles that cover ongoing changes and impacts on UK and international economies. You will be keen to promote your daily published stories to a wider audience.

You will be an excellent editor, able to promptly translate complicated ideas into accessible language for a general audience. On a day-to-day basis, the role will involve devising and developing ideas, responding to pitches, and working with academic experts on their stories.

  • Able to digest complex ideas and translate these for a general audience
  • Demonstrable editing skills from working with academic material or in journalism
  • Excellent grasp of the English language
  • Highly organised and able to juggle multiple tasks/stories
  • Good diplomatic skills

Our HQ is based in London but you don’t have to be – the role will include remote working. We value diversity, and are keen to receive applications from people from ethnically diverse and under-represented backgrounds.

You must be legally able to work in the UK. Please mention Journo Resources in your application, it really helps us out. To apply, please send your CV and a covering letter to uk-work@theconversation.com by the end of the day on October 21.
