The Covert Human Intelligence Sources (Criminal Conduct) Act 2021: State-Sanctioned Erasure of Human Rights

Hello. I hope you are well. I would like to write an article about how The Covert Human Intelligence Sources (Criminal Conduct) Bill in the U.K threatens numerous human rights.  I believe that there aren’t enough people talking about this.

Human rights issues I intend to write about
Undercover agents will be granted the authority to commit crimes for the sake of “national security”. It can include murder, torture and sexual assault and agents will be protected under this bill since amendment 7 which would have prevented agents from being able to go this far was shot down. The amendment that required agents to get a judicial warrant before they can commit these crimes was also shot down and so there is no safeguarding.

Agents can also commit crimes for the “economic wellbeing of the U.K.” This statement is extremely vague. The trade unions that go on strike, which is their human right, can be labelled as a threat because they are disrupting trade.

Evidence I will use
I will use the government website as a source and refer to the data given on how many votes the bill received. I will also look at news reports and pull quotes from the bill. I will also look at previous investigations which have shown that agents have been abusing human rights before this bill (spying on NGOs and unions) but now they want to take it up a level. I will also refer to the UDHR and show how the bill violates it.

Why me?
I believe that I am the appropriate person to write this article as my political expertise lies in human rights. I have a Human Rights and Political Science Master’s degree. I am also a freelance journalist and so I keep up with the news frequently and I know how to write well.
