Double-decker buses, picket fenced lorries, and homely horse boxes: Brits forced to think outside of the housing box with soaring housing prices.

Sandwiched between the cost-of-living crisis, a housing market going up in flames and glum wages, buying or renting a home is out of the question for more people than ever. It’s a problem the people inhabiting the coastal counties of Devon and Cornwall have felt as a cold smack to the face as more wealth hoarders snatch up second or even third homes, driving up demand, frustration, and anxiety.

Locals are taking matters into their own hands – by repurposing everything from horse boxes, double-decker buses and lorries into a haven to call their own home.
I’ll speak to some of those who’ve done just that – as well as securing photos of the reality of their handmade homes- and ask experts if this is sustainable or just another symptom of failing housing solutions.
