The UK edition of The Conversation is looking for a video producer to help translate its unique model of academic journalism into short- and long-form video. All our articles are written by an expert in the field, drawing on their knowledge of research, and edited by a journalist for a broad, non-specialist audience. Now we want to forge a new way of replicating this idea in video format.
The role
This role pays £34,000-40,000pa. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to not only produce videos for the world’s most quoted source of academic content, but also to shape our visual identity, our voice and our overall approach to video on a variety of social media platforms as well as our website, helping us to reach younger audiences in particular.
We need someone who can present new research in creative, engaging ways, and make academic ideas relevant and accessible in order to explain what’s happening in the world. They’ll be experienced at recording video in person and remotely, as comfortable in front of the camera as behind it, and proficient in video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro. They’ll have intimate knowledge of different social platforms and an ability to quickly spot and respond to trends and news stories, as well as other strategies for communicating research suitably to different audiences.
The role will involve:
- Recording and editing several short-form videos a week plus regular long-form videos, and helping with production of video podcasts
- Collaborating with the editorial, audience and podcast teams to set up a smooth, efficient way of working
- Developing and testing different formats, models and genres of video to establish a playbook that incorporates The Conversation’s editorial and brand guidelines
- Assisting with managing channels on TikTok, YouTube and other relevant platforms as needed.
