An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Sound Operator to join the STV News team based in Glasgow. This role will be responsible for controlling all aspects of the STV News sound requirement and requires an understanding of all equipment/systems in related areas and the ability to adhere to/further develop operational procedures and communication practices.
Key responsibilities
- Demonstrable experience in television broadcast sound operations is essential, including mixing both complex and simple live programmes to a high level.
- Operate all necessary studio sound systems, including audio mixers, talkback systems and understand studio audio infrastructure and cabling.
- A strong understanding of broadcast communications, including the setup and operation of comms involved in live SNG broadcasts and other external sources including line feeds, Skypes, Dejero and Zoom within broadcast.
- The installation, operation and maintenance of modern sound mixing and recording equipment.
- Monitor sound levels during live broadcasts and programme recording to a high standard.
- Setup, modify and operate the studio talkback systems across multiple sites.
- Identify any equipment faults and provide details to maintenance personnel.
- Demonstrate detailed system knowledge and provide front line maintenance to keep the area operational.
- Excellent teamwork and communication including supporting and training team members and developing workflows to achieve the highest quality sound output across the country.
- Experience and understanding of location sound recording
- Working on the studio floor as an audio assistant when required.
Skills and experience:
- HNC in Electronic Engineering or equivalent is essential.
- Strong understanding of all studio disciplines, workflows and procedures.
- A strong understanding of broadcast communications, including the setup and operation of comms involved in live SNG broadcasts and other external sources including line feeds, Skypes, Dejero and Zoom within broadcast.
- Experience in the installation, operation and maintenance of modern sound mixing and recording equipment.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills including supporting and training team members
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise confidently with both technical, editorial and production crews and guests in the studio.
- Self-initiative and willingness to take on responsibility
- Ability to work under pressure and accurately within a live television environment
- Determination and drive to succeed and to overcome obstacles
- Relevant experience of broadcast operational disciplines gained in an operational live television gallery environment preferred.
- Informed interest and understanding of news and current affairs and video/audio equipment is essential.
This role will require the successful candidate to work shifts across afternoon/ evenings Monday – Friday with occasional weekend work required,
