The Jewish Chronicle is the world’s oldest Jewish newspaper, proudly covering the stories that matter to British Jews since 1841. We are committed to fearless, rigorous journalism with a distinctive voice, reflecting the diversity, challenges and achievements of Jewish life in the UK and beyond.

Role Overview

We are looking for a talented and curious Reporter to join our dynamic newsroom. You will be responsible for breaking exclusive stories, generating original features, and reporting with accuracy and flair on a broad range of issues affecting the Jewish community—across the UK, Israel, and globally.

Whether you’re interviewing prominent figures, covering community events, or investigating complex social, political or religious issues, your work will help inform, challenge, and inspire our readers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pitch and write compelling news stories, features and interviews to deadline.
  • Maintain a strong network of contacts within the Jewish community and beyond.
  • Attend events, protests, court hearings, and press briefings as needed.
  • Identify emerging stories and trends relevant to our readership.
  • Collaborate with editors and other reporters to develop strong angles and follow-up pieces.
  • Write for both print and online platforms, including contributing to multimedia content (social media, video, podcasts) as appropriate.
  • Ensure all reporting meets the highest journalistic standards of accuracy, fairness and integrity.

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Excellent writing skills and a keen news sense.
  • Demonstrable reporting experience—either at a regional, national, or specialist title.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • A deep interest in British Jewish life, politics, and culture.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Hebrew
  • Experience working with CMS and digital tools.
  • Familiarity with UK media law and journalistic best practices.
  • Background in investigative journalism or data reporting.

What We Offer:

  • A chance to work for an historic publication with a loyal readership and global reputation.
  • A collaborative and supportive newsroom environment.
  • Opportunities for career development and journalistic training.
  • Competitive salary, commensurate with experience.
  • Pension scheme and other benefits.
