STEP, the global professional body that helps families plan for their futures, is looking for a News Editor to cover maternity leave for a 12 month fixed term contract from March 2026 until February 2027.

12 Month Fixed Term Contract 01/03/2026 to 26/02/2027

Working within the Communications Directorate, the News Editor is responsible for the management and timely delivery of industry news content. This includes the News Digest e-newsletter service and writing news-related features for the STEP publications on a regular basis. They manage and develop relationships with industry contacts, and stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the private client industry (trusts, estates and tax) globally.

The News Editor may also provide general editorial assistance across STEP’s various content channels.

The ideal candidate will have a strong eye for detail, be highly organised and enjoy working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. They will be comfortable handling technical content, presenting it in accessible and engaging ways. They will be able to demonstrate experience in a similar role, either B2B or B2C.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • The management, production and delivery of STEP’s Industry News Digests (email newsletters) from research to publication.
    • Researching and writing industry news for the fortnightly North America and Latin America news digests.
    • Editing, fact-checking and applying house style to the twice-weekly UK and International news; written by our freelance reporter.
    • Uploading and publishing content on the STEP website industry news pages.
    • Producing and distributing all four News Digest newsletters via the Marketing Cloud email mailing system.
    • Liaising with our freelance reporter on potential news stories, sharing leads on an ad-hoc basis.
    • Working with STEP’s commercial partner to process sponsored content featuring in the News Digests to a high ethical standard.
  • Writing and producing the monthly Membership Newsletter, sent via the Marketing Cloud email mailing system.
  • Regular reporting on data analytics on News Digests and Monthly Membership Newsletter engagement, and the associated newsletters, to measure engagement and inform future content development.
  • Uploading, tagging and checking content on the STEP Journal website and maintaining relevant webpages.
  • Researching and writing news, interviews, roundtables and other features as required for the STEP publications.
  • General editorial assistance: subbing, proofing, writing content across STEP’s publications as required.

Internal Communication and Stakeholder & External Liaison

  • External liaison and relationship building with law/accountancy firms, PR agencies, regulators and other professional bodies for commentary and news on developments.
  • Liaising with STEP members for news, developments and feedback.
  • Liaising with internal STEP departments to gather information.
  • Liaising with external sales team regarding advertising content.
  • Working with other members of the Communication Directorate to deliver consistent messages across all communications.
  • Attending company briefings, industry events, press launches and meetings.

  • Excellent writing skills and command of the English language (E)
