QueerAF is looking for a Senior Audience Producer to develop its newsletter audience by connecting with new audiences and publishing its award-winning content in innovative new ways.
If you can transform a 4,000-word newsletter into an informative Bluesky thread, design bold sets of Instagram slides to encourage people to dive deep into a podcast on the subject, or whip up a short video with a cliffhanger so that people read the full explainer in a newsletter, QueerAF wants you.
Intent on telling LGBTQ+ stories away from the big tech companies that filter queer content, QueerAF’s Senior Audience Producer will report to the company’s founder, and deliver a unique approach to journalism and content creation by growing the audience of its weekly newsletter and documentary podcast.
QueerAF is particularly interested in hearing from marginalised queer creatives, including (but not limited to) lesbian, bi+, Trans+, non-binary, Black, Asian, racialised communities and disabled applicants.
Key tasks and deliverables
- Grow the audience of our free newsletter and podcast through outreach, collaborations and creative content.
- Develop cross-promotion opportunities and content partnerships by developing relationships with other LGBTQIA+ creators and newsletters for QueerAF’s channels
- Repurpose our weekly newsletter and other QueerAF platform content to Instagram, Bluesky, TikTok, LinkedIn and other social networks to introduce our journalism and content to users on other platforms
- Engage and grow QueerAF’s social media followers as one part of a strategy that converts them to newsletter readers
- Create cyclical ‘cliffhanger’ content that drives social media users to our newsletter and vice versa (whilst offering value as stand-alone content)
Background
Essential
- Experience using content and relationship building to convert people into free and paid subscription/membership audiences
- Understanding of media law
- Experience developing journalistic content
- You’ve read QueerAF’s newsletter and listened to its podcast
Desirable
- Audience development from social media to other platforms like YouTube, Discord and podcasts
- Background in journalistic roles or relevant training is helpful, but so is a background in creating engaging content for diverse audiences
- Experience with Canva or other social media editing tools
- Access to your own hardware
- Understanding or having worked before with the IMPRESS Standards Code
Details
- We’re looking for a freelance contractor to work two days a week with us.
- We work remotely and are happy to discuss flexible hours or splitting this time across a working week.
- This role is for six months, with a four-week probation period with potential to extend
- All QueerAF creatives and freelancers must abide by our editorial policies and contributor guidelines.
