About The Role
We’re seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Reporter to join our editorial team covering the waste, recycling, and resource management sector. In this dynamic entry-level role, you’ll be writing news stories – using cutting-edge AI tools to rewrite and enhance press releases – and play a vital part in developing and maintaining a trusted industry pricing index.
If you’re passionate about sustainability, technology, and journalism, and want to make a real impact in a fast-evolving industry, this is a unique opportunity to get hands-on experience while building your career.
In this role, you would help us develop the ways in which we can enhance our editorial process by integrating AI into our writing and research – while keeping editorial integrity and ethical standards as paramount.
Key Responsibilities
- AI-Assisted News Writing
- Use AI tools to quickly and accurately turn press releases and statements into high-quality news stories relevant to the waste and recycling industry.
- Track breaking developments, regulatory updates, and market changes from official sources, trade bodies, and companies.
- Collaborate with editors to ensure factual accuracy, clarity, and editorial integrity.
- Pricing Index Development
- Assist in compiling, verifying, and updating pricing data for key waste and recyclable materials (e.g., paper, plastics, metals).
- Help maintain a regularly published index tracking trends in market prices, including input from industry stakeholders and data providers.
- Contribute to short data insights or trend pieces tied to index movements.
- AI & Editorial Innovation
- Engage with AI-driven tools to improve productivity and story quality.
- Share insights to help shape how the newsroom uses and integrates AI.
- Optional: Events Programmes
- Our parent company ROAR B2B is a substantial media company with a significant events portfolio. Letsrecycle.com hosts several major conferences throughout the year aimed at the waste and recycling industry and local authorities.
- While not essential, you will have the opportunity to involve yourself in our conferences through agenda writing and chairing.
Skills & Qualifications
- A degree in Journalism, Environmental Science, Communications, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Strong writing and editing skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Interest in waste, recycling, circular economy, or sustainability topics.
- Comfortable using spreadsheets and organizing numerical data.
- Eagerness to experiment with AI writing tools like ChatGPT and adapt to new technologies.
- Ability to manage deadlines and work on multiple stories simultaneously.
Desirable Experience
- Previous work or internship with a trade publication, newsroom, or data-focused role.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations, waste classifications, or recycling infrastructure.
- Basic understanding of pricing data, commodity markets, or materials trading is a bonus.
What We Offer
- A front-row seat to innovations in environmental journalism and data reporting.
- The chance to build your byline and contribute to a respected pricing benchmark.
- Exposure to AI-driven editorial tools and best practices.
- Mentorship, ongoing training, and career growth opportunities in niche reporting.
