BMJ is seeking a talented and experienced journalist to lead its content teams across three distinct products and provide strategic direction as we explore synergies between them. You will be responsible for a broad range of editorial output including articles, multi-media, learning modules, banks of exam revision questions, online forums and more.

Leading a team of clinical editors, journalists, multi-media producers and freelancers you will devise formats, develop commissioning strategies, and optimise editorial procedures to ensure content output supports the commercial strategy of each product, whether that is persuading individuals to purchase access to BMJ Learning, ensuring our question banks provide superior practice for junior doctors taking royal college exams, or developing a brand new audience beyond doctors.

Reporting to the Director of BMJ Careers, Learning and OnExamination, you will have considerable freedom to shape this new role, explore ideas, and influence the broader commercial strategy. While there will be scope for some hands-on editorial work, the thrust of this role is strategic: setting the direction and parameters of content output; aligning that with commercial strategy; determining and delivering appropriate quality standards; managing resources; developing the editorial team; identifying content synergies between products; spotting opportunities for integration; and fine-tuning processes to achieve optimal results.

The successful candidate will have a solid track record in a senior editorial role producing a range of high quality content for a professional audience and be confident handling clinical content. You are also likely to have an interest in using web analytics and other data to inform the development of high-performing content.

Qualification & Experience

  • Significant experience managing editorial teams and budgets;
  • Experience of developing and executing content strategy across a number of content types;
  • Experience of working with doctors and other experts;
  • Track record of innovation and leadership;
