We’re looking for an editorial assistant to join our growing team of journalists at Sifted.
Sifted is a new media platform reporting on the world of technology and startups in Europe, backed by the Financial Times. Just a year after launching, we’ve become known for our high-quality journalism and fresh viewpoints, and a must-read for many founders, investors and people working in startups across the continent.
Our team of reporters, based across Europe, aren’t chasing after the latest funding announcements or product releases; plenty of other sites have got that covered. We are telling the untold stories — big startup trends, compelling company profiles and the everyday lessons that come from growing a business and messing up along the way.
We’re on the lookout for a self-starting, commercially-minded and data-enthusiastic person to help us develop and expand new editorial products. This is a role for somebody who likes coming up with ideas, testing out new things and figuring out how to solve challenges fairly independently. It will, however, also involve working closely with, and learning from, our team of super experienced and creative journalists.
To start with, your role will be to build out, enrich and improve our ecosystem maps, with a view to making them both editorially and commercially more valuable, and grow the audience for our corporate innovation newsletter Future Proof.
Our ecosystem maps detail companies to watch in specific countries and sectors. They’re our way of gathering information on Europe’s early-stage startup scene which is otherwise hard to find, and they also help us to reach new audiences. Working on them takes an organised and methodical mind, but there’s plenty of room for creativity too.
Our weekly Future Proof newsletter is designed for people involved with and interested in corporate innovation. It’s led by our innovation editor Maija Palmer. Your role will be to help her produce it, curating news, collecting data, reporting and editing interview and opinion pieces from community contributors.
We are also starting to arrange meet-ups for the Future Proof audience so you will help organise these, including finding speakers, arranging venues and liaising with attendees. There is a lot of scope to help us figure out new, more creative and efficient ways to do all of this.
Over time, you will come up with ideas for new products too — and work with the editorial, commercial and product teams to bring them to life.
What are we like to work for? We have a small-company mindset, but big company goals, and can draw on many of the strengths and benefits of a world-respected brand, the Financial Times. We’re friendly, hard-working and passionate about what we do. We have a flat structure, collaborate across disciplines, and everyone has impact across many areas of the business. We value feedback, honesty and clear communication.
