Conference Reporter, #SPANC23, Journo Resources

This job has expired and applications are closed
Location: Glasgow
Salary details: £160 a day
  • Freelance Gig

Please note, this role is only open to students who are members of the Student Publication Association and who are attending the 2023 conference in Glasgow. This is part of our annual opportunities scheme for students who attend the conference and is only open to members of the SPA.

Are you coming to #SPANC23? Would you like to get paid to write pieces about the conference, which will be published on one of the UK’s leading journalism advice websites?

Journo Resources is looking for up to two student journalists to work on coverage of the conference for their website, contributing pieces to their ‘Day in the Life’ section. You’ll be paid £160 per day of agreed conference coverage.
Previous delegates have interviewed Megha Mohan of the BBC, Jim Waterson of The Guardian, and Charlie Brinkhurst-Cuff, formerly of gal-dem and the New York Times, to name but a few.

What You’ll Do:

  • Speak with our editors before the conference to identify 2–4 speakers on one day you might like to speak to.
  • Outreach to these journalists in the run-up to the conference to let them know you’ll be speaking to them.
  • Conduct short 15–20 minute interviews with them at the conference, sending the transcript through to our editors after the conference, with a suggested intro sentence. We’ll help you with the suggested interview structure and questions if needed.

What You’ll Get:

  • You’ll be paid a day rate of £160 for your work, as agreed beforehand, and paid via invoice when you submit your transcripts.
  • All pieces will be published on Jouno Resources, under your byline.
  • A full reference for any further jobs, if required.
