Cogora is seeking a clinical features assistant to join our editorial team, to cover the latest clinical news and developments on two major healthcare business titles. They would write weekly stories, interviews and features and commission clinical content from health professionals for award winning titles Nursing in Practice and The Pharmacist.

Nurses and pharmacists are increasing their clinical workload in primary care as the NHS seeks to increase access to healthcare. Nursing in Practice is the leading title for primary care nurses, and The Pharmacist caters to community pharmacists and the growing number of GP practice pharmacists.

For a journalist interested in medicines and clinical development these brands allow a comprehensive opportunity to get to grips with the latest in clinical care of patients in the core areas seen in primary care.

Commissioning and working with clinical experts will be on your daily agenda with opportunities to write clinical features and carry out leading interviews while keeping up to date with the clinical care of patients by nurses and pharmacists.

Key skills will include extensive contact building with relevant representative bodies and clinical leaders, managing a commissioning schedule and keeping of top of content for regular newsletters. You will have an NCTJ or degree and evidence of relevant career history.

You report to the editor of The Pharmacist and work closely with the editor of Nursing in Practice and the clinical editor.

You will work within a wider team in an innovative health-focused publishing company that offers hybrid working and a central London office. We would like you to spend one day a week (or more, if you like) in our offices in Farringdon, in the City of London.

Responsibilities

  • Writing one to two clinical features a week
  • Keeping abreast of clinical news and developments
  • Building contacts to share with the rest of the news team
  • Going out to meetings and conferences
  • Uploading content to the website
  • Developing and building three weekly newsletters
  • Developing and contributing to our social media
  • Contributing to podcasts
  • Working with the wider Cogora editorial brands
  • Working with the rest of the editorial team to shape the content and direction of Cogora’s publications, which cover the whole of primary care

Key skills and experience

Essential

  • A portfolio of articles demonstrating an interest in this area;
  • An eye for detail and accuracy;
  • The ability to write accurate engaging copy;
  • A basic knowledge of the UK health sector.

Highly desirable

  • Experience of working in a health publication
  • Feature writing experience
  • Clinical knowledge or qualifications

Desirable, but not essential

  • Science degree
