HSG, the content company, is hiring a journalist to focus on a new financial publication.
We are looking for a sharp, quick-witted and deeply ambitious person to bring to life our first daily newsletter, Balance Sheet – making it indispensable to the world’s most ambitious CFOs and finance teams.
Content is verticalising, and HSG intends to be in the vanguard of doing this well. It’s always been our intention, since our inception two years ago, to build out content that creates the audiences our clients – SaaS, fintech, tech and their investors – want to reach. We are turning these businesses into media companies; it follows that, in doing so, we will be one too.
Balance Sheet will start life as a daily newsletter, launching alongside an industry report, before, as our community grows, we build out further content, a podcast, events and courses.
Spearheading Balance Sheet will mean spending a few hours each day writing this newsletter, with a writing slot late morning, to produce a tier one-grade piece of journalism.
If this sounds like a good challenge, we’d love to hear from you.
What The Role Entails
Working 2-3 hours a day, you will research, plan and write the Balance Sheet newsletter.
Here’s the goal: a daily newsletter for CFOs and finance teams that is as useful and informative as it is engaging and fun. Designed to sit alongside publications that these audiences may read today (like the FT and Bloomberg) but with a decidedly more human twist – content that feels like it’s written for you, not to you.
Balance Sheet will go out Monday to Fridays, c 7.30am East Coast Time, focusing on a US audience before the bell, while catching Europe at lunchtime. This will mean collating interesting things across the day and writing late morning.
About You
- You’ll be an excellent writer.
- You’ll have strong knowledge of finance and the financial world.
- You’ll have a keen interest in current affairs, especially business and financial, with an exceptional knack for analysis.
- You will enjoy writing with wit and panache.
- You’ll be a punctual person who actively enjoys working to tight deadlines.
- You’ll love learning, and the opportunity to absorb more on a daily basis.
- You’ll like the idea of getting involved in something early, mucking in and being part of its growth and success.
- You’ll either be a journalist and/or writer, but likely feel frustrated at traditional media and content institutions and structures.
- You’ll have a high conviction in verticalising content, and the idea of creating content for one audience and owning that will excite you.
Key Responsibilities
- Writing the Balance Sheet newsletter, Monday-Friday – including requisite research.
- There is the opportunity to flex up this role as Balance Sheet, and HSG, grow.
Details & How To Apply
- This role pays £1,800/mo for the first 3 months. There will be the opportunity for revenue share as the newsletter becomes profitable.
- You will work 2-3 hours a day, with a publication time of 7.30am EDT.
- Remote working – though you’d be welcome to use the offices of HSG or its partners, in London or the US.
